Where Mobile Meets Domains
December 23, 2015
Welcome to Alphabet Domains Live Online Marketing Class … “Where Mobile Meets Domains … We’re glad all of you are here.
Where Mobile Meets Domains is a very interesting program and will be a global priority in 2016.
What is mobile? Mobile indicates traveling, transportable, portable, movable … in contrast to what is stationary … not movable.
When we consider the digital world it is more defined…it involves devices like cellphones, tablets (portable computers) … mobile devices.
Racing home to get access to the internet is no longer an issue … the internet is in our hands and we are able to gain unlimited access.
Flashback in time … moms would gather the children in the family vehicle and head over to the library to gain access to information.
“Make sure you have your Library Card so you can check out some books.” Words often heard in many homes.
When was the last time you heard the words “Library Card”?
No longer needing a library card to gain access to unlimited knowledge represented a shift in thought and action.
Maybe it was the home library filled with encyclopedias … the place to sit quietly and study. How many homes have a home library today?
When a mobile phone was mounted on the center console between the two front seats on vehicles are times long gone.
Those were the days … days long gone and are not coming back. This was a shift in thought and action.
Then came the mobile phone mounted in a shoulder bag like a carry-on luggage bag where every minute of use was very costly.
Has anyone seen one of those lately? No, they’re in museum, storage units or attics or totally gone … another shift.
As recently as a few years ago there was the “Beeper” . Get a “beep” find a phone and call the number. If it was “911” you called it quickly.
Seen any beepers lately? Another shift in thought and action…
Then the “Crown Jewel” came … the Flip Phone… We felt like Captain Kirk calling for a ride to the mother ship … Flip and talk.
Seen a flip phone lately? Some hands … on cop shows. That’s right. Why are they still using flip phones? They’re in the show inventory.
Maybe a neighbor or two might still have a flip phone … they really want the see a shift to the next level … the “Smartphone”.
The smartphone represents a major shift in thought and action. Connectivity is instant. Unlimited access is available and streaming data is getting cheaper or free with many “Plans” … Another shift…
Consumers are changing carriers so fast … one carrier liken them to “flying waterfowl” coming back “home” – They didn’t go back home …
When consumers found a better “Plan” … They stayed “gone” and may never go back … another shift in thought and action.
As we can see this “mobile” journey through the years has constantly changed … all for the better as many of you would agree.
People want to connect quickly, access the information quickly, make a call quickly, make the best decision quickly or they’ll drop quickly.
The another definition for “mobile” is physical movement as in a “mobile repair crew” …
Even the “mobile” repair crew has a “mobile” phone … There’s a lot of mobile going on worldwide and it’s here to stay. Another shift!
Over 7.1 billion people have cellular subscriptions worldwide and this will keep going up… another shift. 95% of the world population has access to a mobile-cellular signal, another shift.
The (ITI) International Telecommunications Union reports the use will continue to rise. Learn more here –> http://bit.ly/1OMlA12
The ITI Reports are documents telecom companies, governments, retailers, advertising agencies and even news networks rely on daily.
The ITI is a specialized agency of United Nations (UN) that is responsible for issues concerning information & communication technologies.
ITU was formed in 1865 at the International Telegraph Convention and became a United Nations specialized agency in 1947. Another shift.
The ITU provides invaluable information to help navigate the mobile world. The ITU uses a ITI or index ( http://bit.ly/1OMlA12 ) to some what give a grade as to how countries are doing …
Some are low and others are higher … Who’s the highest on this (Information and Communication Technology) ICT Development Index (IDI)?
Korea ranks first place on the global ITC Development Index for access to mobile-cellular service… That’s getting things done! A… shift!
The rest of the world is playing catch up with mobile-cellular access … this upward movement to full access will represent another shift.
As this happens more people will be able to tap in a domain name or do an online search and gain quick access to the info they desire.
We are a mobile world and it’s not going back … people are time-starved and want quick and easy mobile access to the desired information.
This is Where Mobile Meets Domains …
This represents desire for quick and easy mobile access another shift in thought and action.
The ITU has given the data to global governments & they all know what’s going on with mobile. They’re trying to address this with corporations.
When Cuba opened up to mobile and some US carriers have direct access to the network … celebrations on both sides rejoiced. Another shift!
Finally, governments are realizing the failure of a mobile exclusion population … They have access to the ITU Reports. They’re changing … Another shift!
2016 will see another shift. A complete shift from the “Home Page” to quick access to the page where the information is located …
When people see an ad for products in 2016, they will want the address to the product and not endlessly clicking on links … another shift!
This direct access to product offers is going to change advertising and promotions forever! Another Shift …
Companies are buying domains like never before because they know what’s coming. They also are hoping we want know so the domain is available.
In 2016 we will see an ad for a product from well known companies with a domain name placed in the ad to a page on the website, not the homepage. They’re going to send customers directly to the sale page so mobile meets the domain name quickly!
When a special sale appears on TV the domain you see will send the customer straight to the sale. Why? Marketing products and services are going to go into hyper-drive in 2016. Advertisers know a domain name will direct them to the product.
Since more than 80% of shoppers are on mobile … this is where mobile meets domains!
Advertisers know the customer is “mobile” and shopping on mobile (devices) … and they better be quick or they’re gone and not coming back!
So company “A” has a sale on shoes. In the past they put an image on the “Home Page” and hoped you clicked on it to go to the shoe sale.
We will see a shift to domains. Company “A” will advertise the shoes with the domain Shoes dot something. Person types it in on mobile click enter and there are the shoes.
One-Step and there are the shoes … and buy what you like … done!
What does this mean for @DomainOwners? Now’s the time to search for product sale and service domains. No company names, generic domains.
What kind of domains are best? It’s on mobile they’re typing in … so short is better than long. A short Geo domain is better than a long one.
Regardless of the domain, if it’s short and they know that’s the place they need to go, they’ll click on it or type it in on mobile!
If company “B” is selling dresses, the domain name is XXXK dot xyz … they will click or type-in those four and go there.
They are learning more about domains and all of them will work if you click on them. If you’re selling shoes the domain will work.
What’s going on here? Another shift from the early days of domaining. There are a lot of extensions beside .com. People know what .edu is …
The early days there were limited choices for the buyer when shopping for a domain. Not anymore! Another shift!
It is very important to get this right. Shoes dot club or dot xyz dot dot win or dot top or dot info or dot review or dot any will work.
Now the advertisers know and they are using third parties to register and hold them until the “breakout” or launch day. Remember Verizon bought Hum.com. Originally they were going to use Verizon Vehicles, but they decided to change it to Hum prior to launch. Here is one of the best examples of mobile meeting domains to promote one of the best products for drivers since GPS.
They kept it on “ice” and one day there was Hum.com … look at the story here http://bit.ly/1IrXjkg
They could have used Verizon Car Services or Verizon Vehicles … no! Hum dot com was the hit! Short and easy to type in … three characters …WOW!
Hum tweeted… 12/24/2015 6:42 am
@hum: @alphabetdomains Thanks! It was Verizon Vehicles, but we decided to change it to hum just prior to launch.
Our Tweet:
So in 2016 Mobile will really meet domains in a big way! Will you be ready? Another shift in attitude and action will be required in 2016!
Tonight we looked back to the 1960s with the console mounted “mobile” phone through the beeper, flip phone days to the smartphones today.
All of these “shifts” in attitude and action have largely gone the way of the “rabbit ears” for TV and unknown to many people today…
This shift in advertising and promotions for mobile using domains will have the staying power of mobile in the marketplace for years.
Today is a good day to get your domain portfolio ready to meet this challenge so the mobile time-starved consumer will return time and again.
